Macau 2049 Residency Show Premiere

Seven years after the opening of the MGM Theater, its first-ever, must-see residency show made its debut on 15 December 2024. On the historic occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland, MGM has joined hands with the internationally acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou to present a groundbreaking residency show - Macau 2049 at the MGM Theater. The premiere of Macau 2049 was held yesterday with an opening ceremony officiated by Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited and Zhang Yimou, Chief Director of Macau 2049.

Macau 2049 is an 80-minute show that integrates advanced technologies from 20 countries and regions, offering innovative interpretations of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, including Hua’er, Khoomei, Miao songs and dances, Peking Opera, Yangge, Yi Song, Lion Dance, and Storytelling from North Shaanxi. This fusion creates a profound ideological expression rarely seen on stage. This immersive experience takes audiences on a virtual journey through China, showcasing its rich customs and culture.

To enhance global appreciation of traditional Chinese cultures, the performance is offered in eight international languages, breaking down language barriers. Additionally, inheritors of these intangible cultural traditions are invited to perform live, ensuring an authentic experience in Macao.
